E-8 Joint Surveillance Target Attack Radar System relocation
Starting in July on 2025 we begin work disassembling this E-8. This Joint Surveillance Target Attack Radar System tracked ground vehicles and some aircraft as well as collected imagery and relayed tactical pictures to ground and air theater commanders. This particular E-8 with tail number 02-9111 was named for the September 11, 2001 terrorist attack and was the focus of a milestone in the Global War on Terror.
We did an engineered splice on the wings of this aircraft. It was transported about 3 miles from the flight line at Lackland AFB (Kelly Field) in San Antonio TX to the Center of Excellence and will be set up as a trainer. The purpose of the slice was to save a little time and funds. This aircraft will be used as a ground static trainer and will never fly again. the splice system we used and have used on several other aircraft is more than enough to hold the aircraft together for many more years.
